Since the autumn of 1997, there is a supplementary folk music programme intended for folk singers, fiddlers and other string musicians (playing the guitar, mandola, mandora or lute, for example).

The programme prepares the students for college and professional life. On their principal instruments, the students will be instructed by 4 -6 of our leading folk musicians and teachers, in addition to the senior teachers at school. Visits by guest teachers are spread out over the training period as a whole. Naturally, this programme adopts a “folk music perspective” on individual training as well as on ensemble playing, theory and so on.

Applications must be submitted no later than April 1. Entrance auditions take place during the spring before a jury. This includes the performance of three melodies or songs of your own choice on your principal instrument, an aural test, a simple sight-reading test and finally an improvisation or accompaniment to a melody presented to the applicant at the audition. The applicants will also be given the opportunity to show their skills on a second instrument.
