The Falun Conservatory of Music offers a musical education with national recruitment that prepares students for college and working life. Here you can devote yourself entirely to music and meet other young people with equally profound musical interest, in an environment that offers great opportunities for musical and personal development. The conservatory has an upper secondary school programme as well as supplementary training concentrating primarily in classical music but also including programmes for folk music and dance. The total number of student places is around 80.

A major difference between studying music within the general upper secondary arts programme and the upper secondary programme at the Falun Conservatory is that the latter involves many more hours of vocational studies. Three lessons a week, two individual and one joint lesson, are devoted to the student’s principal instrument. (For many years now the Falun Conservatory of Music has had the highest percentage of students admitted to musical colleges compared with similar preparatory schools in Sweden.)
The Conservatory has its own symphony orchestra, a chamber orchestra and a choir and we put great emphasis on various forms of ensemble playing. Our concerts take place in Kristinehallen, a concert hall renowned for its excellent acoustics and with room for an audience of 530 seated guests. These concerts will give you important performance opportunities as well as a deeper insight into the life as a professional musician.
The Falun Conservatory of Music also has an ongoing collaboration with the professional DalaSinfoniettan orchestra, ensembles within the County Music Foundation Musik i Dalarna and Dalarna’s Philharmonic Society. The school has contact with other musical institutes on both national and international level and we annually make concert and study tours. Moreover, the Falun Conservatory of music is frequently visited by guest lecturers and instructors. Click on Comments on the School in the menu to the left and read the comments from some of them.
